    500l fermenter

Will let you know how I get on. Haven't brewed on it yet. Just fitted the circulation pump and cooling tubes today. Looking good. Managed to cool an empty tank to target temp in a test run. Just need to add a few more air bleed points as had a few problems with air locks. Once that's...

    500l fermenter

Hi, Pictures attached. One shows the outside of the fermenter, foil back insulation on top of the 50mm of foam. The other shows the cooling plates inside the tank. These came from polsinelli in italy. Good quality. Would be happy to recommend them. Steve

Hi, I was hoping to bottle condition my ales in the garage which sits about 45-55F. Anyone tried doing this by adding a larger yeast or otherwise at bottling time? Any success? Steve

    500l fermenter

Hi, It looks like i'll definitely need to chill on the first few days or the fermentation will get a bit hot and create off flavors. I decided to buy some stainless steel cooling plates, pretty large at about 3ft x 1ft, these hang off the lid in the fermenter. I then got a beer cooler...

    500l fermenter

Hi I'm building a500l fermenter. Has anyone any experience of this size and know whether I would need to heat or cool it? I had to heat my 50l fermenter to get a complete fermentation and I know a larger fermenter would need cooled, but this seems a bit in the middle. Ambient...

    Very slow fermentation

Hi, I've been using mangrove jacks dried British ale yeast. I start with an og of about 1.050 and ferment for about a fortnight. After this time it's settled at 1.014 but when I bottle it and put the ale some where warm it seems to start up again and goes down to about 1.006 making a really...

    Cheap pumps

I also find them hard to prime. Just need to have the vessel above the pump then it works. Also need a valve at the bottom of the tank as there's no way they would suck the fluid over the top of the vessel.

    Cheap pumps

Hi, I use solar pumps, which are really cheap. I've tried the more expensive ones but find for the throwaway money the solars cost i can buy a second and keep it as a spare, but to be honest i've never need it. They cost me £18 each which is about $25. The flow rate is a bit lower than...

    Sparging technique

Hi all, When I'm sparging after the mash I continue until the gravity of the runnings is about 1.008. Then stop sparging and start the boil There's a lot of water left in the mash tun which I run down the drain. This seems an awful waste. Does anyone stop sparging and then drain that...

Element size for 200L boil kettle

Hi all, Considering upgrading my brew set up from a 50L to a 200L boil kettle. Was wondering if anyone had any advice on the size of element i would need in the boil kettle. I was thinking 12kW from 4 x 3kW immersion heater elements. Currently i have 5kW for my 50L boil kettle and this...

    American Wheat Beer

Hi, The wheat i use is as follows: Schill Wheat Malt So it should be malted. That maybe wasn't clear from above post so apologies for that. I usually aim for 1.7quartt/ 1 lb for my strike water. This is based on the 'How to brew book' by John Palmer. he says: "A thinner mash of >2...
