    Fully Automated Brewery Senior Design

Just another thread that makes me wish I'd gone to engineering instead of biochemistry. One can learn to brew great beer without a biochem degree, but brewing is very much an engineering task.

I hate the Ducks. Go Stanford...

In the era of the BCS and the playoff, there have been and will be many 11 and 12 win teams who will not have hardware who I would never say have had a joke of a season. What team do you root for that has won 11 games who's success you have then marginalized and demurred because they lost a...

I hate the Ducks. Go Stanford...

Since 1990 when Washington won it's first of two consecutive AP national championships, the only team that has more conference championships than Oregon's 6 is USC's 9, and two of those were subsequently vacated by the NCAA for violations. Oregon's record in that span is 204-91 (.692), which is...

I hate the Ducks. Go Stanford...

Most certainly. And as Brent Musburger so eloquently pointed out, still a great season for the Tigers and the SEC despite their disappointing bowl performance this year. I guess I should just be happy to be a Ducks fan and enjoy this unprecedented (for my team anyway) run of success in bowl...

I hate the Ducks. Go Stanford...

Ah, good, so you must have seen that the margin of victory in that game was exactly the same as this year, that it was won on a field goal AS TIME EXPIRED after a spectacularly unusual play, that Oregon's much maligned defense kept them in the game in the final 3 minutes, that the lead was never...

    Starbucks vs Exit 6 brewpub

Just business. They have to defend their trademark or it becomes invalid. Bad idea to name a product that similarly to a well known brand. You think you could market a Sevens Up beer with seven hop varieties in it just because it's not technically the same product? What they could have done...

I hate the Ducks. Go Stanford...

Different era, my friend. No college program will ever do that again. You have to play to win now. I would have thought Bama would be the next dynasty, but we see how that's gone this year. With playoffs imminent, you can forget about it.

Oregon Alum myself, having a good old time with all these haters. That's how you know the Ducks are big time. ;)

    Whats wrong with fermentation?

I wouldn't cold crash before transferring onto dry hops. Just my style. I keep it simple. Not a lot of info available on cold vs. warm. If you don't have to transfer to get your hops in the fermenter, I wouldn't bother with the transfer at all.

Experiments are always fun. Good luck!

Adding alpha-galactosidase to carboy (ONE FOR THE EXPERTS!)

I work for a brewery. This is what happens when unfiltered beer is pasteurized.

    Whats wrong with fermentation?

Diacetyl is a chemical compound that yeast make during fermentation. It has a flavor and aroma of movie theater buttered popcorn. Diacetyl is added to fake butter flavoring. Yeast will take up diacetyl at the end of fermentation. A diacetyl rest is simply leaving the beer alone for 3 days...
