    Mashed potatoes

I would imagine it would result in quite a cloudy, thick beer though, due to the starch? I've heard (although never made it) rice is very well washed to remove starch before using as a base, but potatoes can't really be?

    Awesome, cheers guys!

    Noobie hop question

Ok, cool, thanks! I assumed that the longer I left them in there, the more acids would be produced, therefore overpowering the previous hops?

    Noobie hop question

How long do you leave aroma hops in for? I've just made an all grain Old Speckled Hen brew (only my second ever attempt!) and it has turned out really nice, but one thing that I couldn't get from the recipe/instructions is how long to leave the last stage of hops in for? All recipes say put...

    How could i improve this?

I've only just bottled it and was trying it to check if it was worth waiting for! The beer itself if actually quite nice, just more of a general 'what would you do' question really!

    How could i improve this?

Hi all. I've just made the following recipe (first real non-kit attempt!) and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can make it better? It's nice, but I think it could be better, just not sure how!! 340g crushed crystal malt, mash for 30 mins in 2l at 160 degrees, Sparge with 2...

    Terminology question

I really struggled to find anything bigger to be honest. A few weeks of scouring specialists, eBay, catering suppliers... everything, I found a couple of 100 litre ones which would have been ideal, but they were £100 upwards and I just can't get her to agree to opening the wallet that wide! I...

    Terminology question

Thanks for the help guys, although I think I may now have a slightly different problem - my boiling pot is only 24 litres!!! Damn!

    Terminology question

Hi all! I have an all grain recipe which I want to try for my "first" go (I say "first" as my actual first was awful, so I'm not counting that...). I understand and am happy with most of it, but one part says "total liquor = 28.1L, Mash liquor = 11.8L". Am I right in thinking that I use...

    How to gas a keg?

That's the problem for me, over here (UK), they don't actually sell them, they rent them for a yearly fee (about £60 a year I think), but to get one, you need to register a business name as they will only rent them to businesses.

    How to gas a keg?

I've got the coupler on it's way, but it's the tank I'm struggling with. There is a gas supplier but they want it registered to a business which I can't really do. Was just wondering if there would be an alternative to getting the big tanks.

    How to gas a keg?

Hi all. Through a good friend who owns a pub, I have just managed to get hold of a 50L Sankey keg but I'm struggling at the moment to find anywhere that I can get a CO2 bottle for it though. I have got (well, it's in the post!) a tap for the top of it, so attaching a bottle shouldn't be an...

    Elderflower cider

I decided to keep the economy afloat at the weekend by tasting different ciders at my local pub to see what kinds of strange and beautiful flavours work well, and I stumbled upon an Elderflower and Lime one which was really nice. My next brew was going to be 5G of cider so I thought I might...

    Ikea bottles

Grolsch bottles would be ideal and I am keeping my eye on a few lots on eBay at the moment, but it seems like its all northerners who are selling them and want them collected - not easy from Southampton!! I get the impression that the ikea ones are probably designed to look pretty with pasta in...
