    Shoots Shoots Shoots

This is my first year growing hops and i've planted my rhizomes about 3 weeks back and now the shoots are emerging. The cascade is kicking but in the So Cal weather and has grown 3-4 shoots. (Funny too because its out performing the Willamette despite the smaller rhizome. I thought it was going...

    Hop Question - Preserving power

The New Randal Look awesome. Didn't realize they made an improvement on it. I was thinking to save the hops after the french press tea extraction. Somewhere i read that you can still utilize the hops remaining in the french press. As for the tea i was thinking to bottle it and utilize the eat...

    Hop Question - Preserving power

If you visit this forum then i'm sure you're aware that hops are a natural preservative in beer. But what specifically is in those hops that that make it a preservative? Does it have to do with the alpha acidity? Moreover, would hops that have a higher AA, such as simcoe, have a greater ability...

    Hop Tea Storability

I read about making a hop tea and adding the tea right before bottling to give your beer an extra boost in hop aroma. Can't wait to try it but i was wondering if anyone has had any experience making the tea beforehand and refrigerating it for later use. Will it keep well ? or is it like fresh...

Using Half a Tube of Yeast

Staggered nutrient additions? What effect does that have? Is it to give the yeast another boost after all the nutrients have been spent? Interesting, this is my first shot at mead.

Using Half a Tube of Yeast

Thanks! Seems like half would do the trick. I never used half a tube and was thinking there might be some 'seal' that would be broken. You can't save half smack pack.... Or can you... haha

Using Half a Tube of Yeast

Quick question. I bought a tube of White Labs Sweet Mead Yeast and i'm only fermenting 1 gallon. The tube is for 5. is it possible just to shake it up, then only use half and save the other half? Or does it need to be used all at once after its been opened?

    Using Hop Oil/extract

In theory right? but is that really it? seems to good to be true... What about the antibacterial properties of hops, is that encapsulated in the extract? One down side is that i've only seen on type of the extract, no variation.

    Using Hop Oil/extract

The commercial (Craft brewers) brewers use it for consistency in IPAs . I was thinking of trying it out and was wondering if using the extract would be a shortcut in wort boil time.

    Using Hop Oil/extract

I haven't used hop oil before in my brews but was thinking to use it. I was wondering, if you used hop oil/extract. Would you need to add hops during the boil or would the extract take care of it?

Picking out a yeast for an American Brown

Thanks! I've been using the bucket in water bath method but its hard for me to get a temp in the 60's. 70's is more hopeful for where i live. I'll take a look at US05 and the WLP002.
