I drill a small hole in the lid and pull pillow stuffing (polyester) through and pressure cook the jar and lid before filling. It is an old filter trick with mycologists, but I'm a beer noob so take this with a grain of salt. Or just drill the hole and put a priority mail envelope between the...
I pressure cook my flask with enough pillow stuffing (polyester batting) to use as a stopper, it lets air in and out but not the nastys. Just wrap it in foil, cook, and then when ever you unwrap it then it"s ready. wait, foil sounds easier....
I drilled a horizontal hole, but not all the way through the brass collar and used a hammer to hit a screw driver that was catching the hole. I think I read about that on this site a while back, I cant recall. Lefty loosey on the Guinness keg.
rotate it and a notch will line up with a groove and it will then be able to lift upwards. You will still need to rotate it again to clear the second notch through the same groove. The spear has an inner collar that rotates either direction to get the spring assembly out. good luck.
We clean glass carboys with no different form of access than kegs. I thought about taking a heavy chain and wrapping it with scrubbing pads (zip tied?) and giving the keg a good spinning with a gallon or two of oxyclean, rinse, sanitize. Piks please.
