HOPS - need a substitute for Target for bittering

Northern Brewer - did not consider that - good choice I considered that but I did not want that much junk floating around - I would need 4oz just for bittering.

HOPS - need a substitute for Target for bittering

I'm making my 4th batch of my East India Porter and I use 2oz of Target for bittering. HOWEVER - seems my shop has no target and suggested Fuggle or Willamette. HOWEVER - Target has Alpha Acids in the 11% range while the suggested are in the 5% range. Suggestions? ideas? the other hops are...

IPA Recipe Input - Need More Hop Flavor/Aroma

What kind of water do you have over there - I've found when I want to make a good/great IPA I make my own water. Even for extract. I believe water is one of the most important parts in an IPA

    Milk stout questions

Remember - when serving make SURE you are serving to people that are NOT lactose intolerant. You will only have to learn that problem once.

Seeking Advice - Planning For Move Into Kegging

Also a kegger for 2 months after bottling 136 batches. Also emptied my first CO2 overnight wit ha bad fit (learned about soapy water for finding leaks) It ROCKS and I think I drink LESS beer now because instead of a HAVING to drink a full 12 ounces I can drink 6 ounces when I just want a spot...

    Headache from keg

One impurity that all homebrewers should be aware of is benzene. Benzene is a no-no for homebrewers. If the CO2 that you are purchasing has high benzene levels, it will leave you and fellow drinkers with terrible headaches. When I say high levels, we are not talking about much. Benzene is...

    Headache from keg

The slight difference between industrial-grade CO2 and food-grade CO2 is the type of tests that are done to qualify CO2 as beverage or beer gas-grade compared to industrial-grade. Currently, the FDA's requirement for food-grade CO2 a 99.90% purity rating. The other .09% is made up of impurities...

Kgerator Under $400 for Christmas Gift

Depends on how DIY your boyfriend is. I'm horrible so I purchased but you get what you pay for. A Walmart of is fine but it will just put off buying an more expensive once you see the draw backs. You could buy all the other things, legs CO2 tanks and so forth and have him figure out the...

    Bottle conditioning HEF? How long?confused...

My personal rule of thumb - the more ingredients the longer it needs to mature. I love fresh IPAS and old Stouts (not that I can GET them old before I drink them). TYPICALLY I will drink my lighter color brews young. The HEFs I have made seemed fresh from the get go and the longer I had them...

    Kegging questions

I would " purge the head space and hit with a final burst of pressure to seal the lid." and then let it sit unless you just want to carb it up slowly (the better way) and let it sit naturally (unless you don't have the space). So you checked the beer on day 11? The problem is that even though...

Kegging - good carbonation - slow pour

Well - My PROBLEM was that when I took my keg to a beer fest I turned off all the lines. Then when I put what was left of the keg back in the kegorator I adjusted the pressure and forgot to turn the lines back on. Learning process LOL

    I Finally Did It

I tell ya mkyl428 - I had my first weekend with a kegorator and I will embrace alcoholism and brew MUCH more. It's not that I drank more but I could have a half of a glass here and there. So awesome!
