Racking into Secondary and this happened

It's actually an Imperial Stout so I figured adding the bourbon wouldn't hurt and could help smooth out the boozey finish. I have the clamp for my auto siphon I just choose not to use it because I can't see where the siphon is when it's in the middle of the carboy in most beers I brew...

Racking into Secondary and this happened

Thanks. I let the cubes soak for 2 weeks and added the cubes and the bourbon they were in. It was roughly only 4 oz or so. Was this a mistake? Been reading that you should toss it because of tannins. I tasted it, was very strong but I figured in 5 gals it would be ok. Any thoughts?

Racking into Secondary and this happened

Hey guys, tried searching and didn't come up with an exact answer so I assume it's no big deal. I was racking my Imperial Stout into my secondary with oak and bourbon and I wasn't paying attention to how deep the racking cane was. First pump into the secondary looked like chocolate milk...

    Dry hopping

The big thing is don't overthink it and look too much into it. Just keep it simple and do the method you are comfortable with. Like the post above, the last 2 beers I dry hopped were high gravity beers. I racked into secondary and let it sit for a little over a month and mellow a tad. Then dry...

    Dry hopping

Seems more people like the idea of dry hopping in the primary because it lowers the chances of infection and introducing more oxygen to the beer, and because it is less work and very simple. If you are using glass I would say just add to the primary. However, I always go to a secondary because...

The beer that got you into beer

Yeah it's funny how for some, like myself, beer was an acquired test, and for others people they just like beer from the first sip. I remember drinking Schlitz Malt Liquor and chasing it with Mello Yello and having to funnel Natty Light just because I did it to get messed up not for flavor...

    Does this make sense?

Ok so I'm brewing the M-80 extract kit and the directions say to add up to 3 oranges to primary after 2 days of primary fermentation. Will adding fruit at this stage actually accomplish anything flavor wise? I was under the assumption the fermentation would scrub off flavors and aroma?

Water quality and I worried to much?

My water is terrible city water which tastes tart and chlorine-y. I just go to the store and buy spring water and every batch so far has tasted great. If your tap water tastes good then brew with it . I know they sell things you can put in your water to reach the proper ph but don't over...

Brewing Imperial Stout this weekend, quick question

Hey guys, I know this has been mentioned before but I did not find an answer to this specific question. I bought some medium toast American oak CUBES, and plan on soaking them in whiskey for a week or more for secondary. My question is for an Imperial Stout, 5 Gallons, around 9-10% ABV, will...

The beer that got you into beer

The beer that got me into homebrewing was Sweetwater IPA. They are local and were a big deal when the original owner was there. Now I'm hoping to land a job at Terrapin if they'll ever post job openings.

    Un scented soap

I use odor free soap on certain parts and have had no issues. Think about what other brewers used before PBW and Oxyclean came available. Just rinse really well and you're good to go. All PBW is is a detergent just like Oxyclean. I find both of these a pain to wash off of certain surfaces. So...

    Secondary Aging

Thank you . I was just wondering which method of aging you all think is better, secondary or bottle.

    Secondary Aging

First time I've done this so stay with me here. I just racked that 11% ABV IPA I brewed into my secondary to let it age so the alcohol flavor will mellow. My question is this: How long should I let it sit before I dry hop and bottle? Also, will I need to add more yeast before I bottle or...

    92% Attenuation Possible?

So I still need to know if I should rack out of my Speidel plastic fermenter into my glass secondary. If so how long would you let it sit before dry hopping? I know this will need to age but I will have to dry hop before bottling. This Saturday will be 3 weeks and I know the fermentation is done.

    92% Attenuation Possible?

Yeah it was WLP099, I mentioned it in my post. I know it'll take forever to carb which is fine but I guess next time I'll start my ferm off much lower. I am using a speidel fermenter so it's plastic. Do you think I should rack it into a 5 gal glass carboy n let it sit for a while then dry hop?
