    Bench Capper vs Hand Capper

I have both the Red Baron winged capper and the Super Agata bench capper. I have ruined bottle caps with both. That always happens when the capper bell gets slightly unscrewed. On any capper, make sure the capping bell is screwed in tightly. glenn514:mug:

Anyone put themselves into "self isolation"?

Yes, indeed. That has come to a screeching halt right now, but I'm sure I'll be back on the bench come summertime. glenn514:mug:

Anyone put themselves into "self isolation"?

Since my dear wife died a bit over 4 years ago, I have become a self-imposed hermit. I don't go out if I don't have to go. Now, with C19, I have a politically correct term for my lifestyle: self-isolation. I am 73 years old, so I do fall into that group of people called "elderly." Since I...

What did you get for Christmas?

My four daughters gave me a gift card to Nueske's Applewood Smoked Meats in Wittenberg, WI. My order should arrive today: FOUR smoked thick-cut pork chops, 3 pounds of medium-sliced Applewood smoked bacon, and two pounds of landjaeger sausage! Yummy! glenn514:mug:

What else do you make at home that most people buy commercially?

Hmmmm, lemme think. Used to make my own laundry detergent...worked as good as any commercial product at a fraction of the cost. Nowadays, I make my own "ranch" salad dressing, my own red seafood sauce for shrimp, my own tartar sauce especially for fish, and the usual bread and pizza crust...

Epically bad bottling day. Do cappers wear out?

I've had that happen, as well, and I have found that the capper "cup," which is screwed on, has started to come loose. Make certain that the cup is screwed in tightly, so it will not "cock" on the cap. glenn514:mug:

FedEx and the Wizard of Oz

Brewers and Brewerettes... <Rant On> Last week Thursday, 14 November, I ordered a wreath from Balsam Hill. Two years ago, I ordered a new artificial Christmas tree from them, and had it the NEXT day. Welp, my tale of woe began on Friday, 15 November, when I received a message from Balsam Hill...

Got free bottles to give away? Post 'em here!

I just looked at my inventory, and I find that I have EIGHTEEN 24-bottle cases of clean, empty bottles! I would gladly part with ten of them! I am located in Marengo, Illinois, about 25 miles east of Rockford. glenn514:mug:

    Your Thoughts/Prayers/Voodoo Needed

Brewers and Brewerettes… Some of you were right beside me the entire journey that this thread represents, and I still value that. Therefore, let me share something both very joyful and very sad. Last night, I was searching for some small boxes. On my search I found a cardboard shipping box...

Turkey recipe's , smoked or otherwise?

Looking really good, Wyowolf. I was talking to a friend of my son-in-law yesterday. She said she ALWAYS brines the Thanksgiving bird...and then she also mentioned that she also buys the bird at a butcher shop! glenn514:mug:

Turkey recipe's , smoked or otherwise?

Yesterday's Thanksgiving feast is now in the history books. And our turkey was EXCELLENT!!! The marinade [see above] and the hint of apple wood smoke all combined to an absolutely delicious bird!!! So, I got "gold starts" for cooking the turkey, and I also got some very complimentary words on...
