Steps to a clear beer:
  1. Use fining agents in the boil (Irish Moss, Whirfloc)
  2. Chill quickly after the boil to form a good cold break
  3. Let it sit in the primary for 3 weeks or longer
  4. Use gelatin in the primary(way after fermentation) or secondary

My blonde ale was my clearest beer to date because i did all of the following:

Try doing a search for "Fining Agents" or "Finings" and you will get some other info.

I never filter or use finings and my beers are crystal clear.

I know some people have filters for beer and wine, but I'm a little leery of them. They are probably fine, but I think if they strip things (protein particles, yeast, etc) out of the beer that they might affect flavor.
