I've never tried a corona mill, but I think the best first mill for any brewer would be the "Barley Crusher" maltmill. Its made for beer so it comes to you ready to go. Most other mills you can buy require you to add a base, hopper, and a handcrank (or drill). The Barley crusher comes with all these included, for less than $100. $80 last time I checked.

Brewmaster's Warehouse carries them.

Personally I wouldn't go with anything but a malt mill with rollers... your grain crush is very important, and can lead to alot of frustration or botched batches if done improperly.

I bought a grizzly mill for $23 on amazon. It's a corona knock off. I fix it to the handle of my mashtun, throw a bag over the top of the mashtun to keep dust/grain bits from flying up and crank away. No drill. It's a lot of work on a 5 gallon batch to mill that much grain but I work out. I got it.

Monstermill makes a great mill It has the most roller surface area which mean more ouput per turn especially if you are hand cranking Crankenstein is slightly smaller and the barley crusher is a little smaller than that. I love my MonsterMill. Its rock solid overbuilt and should last for years to come. Not to say the other mills wont. I just liked the Monster the best. http://www.monsterbrewinghardware.com/ And Fred is great to deal with http://www.barleycrusher.com/ http://www.crankandstein.net/

thanks a lot fellas! all very good info. Seems some have different opinions on which one to use and which one they prefer! but it all helps!

Ebay or direct.

Barley Crushers can be had with the 15 pound hopper direct for $155 shipped.

The crankand steins look good too but I don;t like their hopper or the fact that they have a base and hopper kit but recommend you cover the sides with cardboard. :drunk:
