Hi All,

I've been playing around with the BrewMate application attempting to concoct my first recipe and I am just wondering what people think? I'm aiming for a high IBU and ABV, but is it too high?

Zeropanic IPA (English IPA)

Original Gravity (OG): 1.070 (°P): 17.1
Final Gravity (FG): 1.018 (°P): 4.6
Alcohol (ABV): 6.88 %
Colour (SRM): 8.1 (EBC): 16.0
Bitterness (IBU): 59.9 (Average)

80% Liquid Malt Extract - Light
20% Dry Malt Extract - Amber

3.7 g/L Fuggles (5.7% Alpha) @ 60 Minutes (Boil)
1.2 g/L East Kent Golding (4.7% Alpha) @ 15 Minutes (Boil)
1.2 g/L East Kent Golding (4.7% Alpha) @ 5 Minutes (Boil)

0.4 g/L Irish Moss @ 15 Minutes (Boil)

Single step Infusion at 66°C for 60 Minutes. Boil for 60 Minutes

Fermented at 20°C with Wyeast 1098 - British Ale

I have considered steeping some grain prior to the boil but not decided for sure whether to go ahead with this route. Also, should I lower the amounts slightly to bring the ABV down, as I'd not considered how long this would take to condition properly.

Any feedback much appreciated.

Cheers,

Amos

I would definately steep something. I did a english ipa with an OG of 1.06 I believe, with fuggles and ekg. It came out great but I wouldn't want to go much high with the abv.

Hi and thanks for the feedback. I've modified the recipe now to include some Crystal 10 steeped for a little flavour and lowered the extract amounts to bring the ABV down to approximately 6%.
