Made my 1st yeast starter for todays brew day and I'm not sure if it is working. I used 1 cup of DME to 32 ozs of water for my wort (boiled for about 10 mins). Pitched yeast at 77 deg in a 1/2 growler and covered with sanitized foil. I swirl it every chance I get. I don't see much activity at all. No kreusen and with the bottle being brown I can't see the yeast cake too well. I do have some soam on top when I swirl the bottle that dissipates after several minutes. Is this normal or did I screw up my first starter?

sounds like it's working fine. starters rarely get active like an actual fermentation, but you'll get foaming when you swirl it. that means the yeast are plugging away. notice if you let it sit for a bit, you get a nice layer of new yeast at the bottom. that's what you're looking for with a starter.
