Will year old grains work?

I've had work consume my life for over a year and haven't brewed as a result. As a result, I've had grains in a air sealed container for 12 months now and I plan on brewing soon. Will these grains work or be a waste of time and effort?

Unmilled? If they smell good, taste them. If they taste good, brew them.

What DBhomebrew said, I always do that when measuring out my grains. I buy a sack of base malt and keep specialty grains in vacuum food saver bags in a big plastic tub. They last a long time if vacuum sealed.

I've used 2 and 3 year old grains and they work fine. My base malts are in open bags while the specialty malts are in plastic bags with the tops tied shut.

All of the tasty brewing I did in 2023 was using unmilled base malts bought in 2021...

whole grain will stay good for years if stored cool and dry. YEARS.
