Topic title pretty well says it all. Snapped up a turkey fryer on clearance from Wal-Mart today for 35$. 36qt pot, 54 000 BTU. Will this be beefy enough to do full boils on 5gal batches with?

Yes. I have a 55k burner and it works great. I can get it boiling in 15 minutes with it turned up high. When i do all grain its faster since im at 150 or so coming out of the mash tun.

Sweet grab! you'll be very happy with it. You will need to fill it with just water and boil for 30 minutes to condition the aluminum pot before using it to make beer, so that will give you an idea how hi or low to adjust the burner to maintain a good boil. Welcome to HBT. Cheers:D

When I boil in a 32 qt pot, I have to turn my Brinkmann WAY down to keep from boiling over. That's on a 45k burner, so you should be good.
