Hey guys!
I put my first stout in the primary
Wednesday and had to MacGuyver
A blowout lock because my lid was
Missing a rubber grommet. Yesterday
I bought a grommet at the homebrew
Store and thought I was ok, but
Apparently the hole was larger than
A standard grommet. Luckily I bought
A bung for my 5-gallon carboy, so I
Cleaned I it and transferred to the carboy,
Put in the airlock, and stayed the night
At my GFs house. Today I checked on it
And found that it went Vesuvius on me,
So I cleane the airlock, put it back on,
And prayed that it was still good.

Questions are: 1) should I forget it or see
If it is good in two weeks
2) should I put a blowout lock back on it
In case it erupts again?

Thanks!

You Gould just hook up a blow off tube and you'll be fine, there is so much CO2 pushing out you don't have to really worry about anything getting in, it will settle down in a couple days

Blow off tube. Fermentation is close to done so there shouldn't be a tremendous amount of krausen production. don't get me wrong fermentation is still going, but its finishing now.

Quick tip tho, fermenting five gallons in a five gallon carboy will give you the same result every time. There is not enough head space, it will blow its top.
