Ok, so i use a Cajun Injector (electric Turkey fryer) to do my brews. Its only 7g so for most of my batches the wort is right at the lip when i start the boil. The electrical element is also only a 1650w so it takes forever to heat the water and then boil (yes, it can boil 7g).

Here's what i want to do.

I am preparing to purchase a 19g SS pot.

What I would like to do is have 2x 1500w heating elements. This would require that i use 2 circuits but it would give me the flexibility of being portable. If I go with 240v then the system would be faster and more powerful, but I need to have a 240v installed somewhere (not really an option) or I pull my dryer every time I need to brew (possibly an option but not much fun brewing indoors during summer).

Ideally, I'd like a small control panel that would allow me to dial to my mash temp (say 154f) and have the elements raise the temp. then maintain that temp via a separate sensor.

Then, I dial it up to 250f and boil.

That's it.

Should be straightforward as it see it but that isn't the case so far. I've checked out numerous 3rd party solutions, the best possibility so far being
https://www.oscsys.com/projects/brewtroller/system-design/single-vessel. I'll have to decide on the 240/110 question first but their support forums takes days to get answers.

I've also considered Induction plates, and portable stove top plates but power is always the issue.

Does anyone have some tips/pointers/ideas for me?

Search this forum for dual 120v builds.

Using a temperature sensor to maintain a boil generally doesn't work well. If you set it to 250F it will likely be too vigorous and boil over. If you set it to 212F (assuming sea level), it will likely oscillate between not boiling and too vigorous. You will want a device that will let you manually set the power level. PWMs and PIDs with manual mode can do this, as well as software-based controllers if they are programmed to do so. These typically drive an SSR, and setting it to, say, 60% would have the SSR switch quickly so that the elements are firing 60% of the time. Another option is an SSVR, which allows you to regulate the voltage itself.

I would suggest a PID with manual mode with an SSR. You can have it maintain mash temperature automatically, then switch to manual mode for the boil.

You really need to go 240V.

There are some low cost controllers out there and I posted this list a while ago after a 5 minute search on the net. Considering what I have in my setup $200 - $300 for something pre-built doesn't seem bad to me.

High Gravity gets good reviews. I haven't seen much on the RBS one. Kegkits has a horrible reputation so beware.

Here is my thread where i build a 2x1500 watt ebiab keggle. I was in the same situation and needed to use two different 120 volt circuits. I have since replaced one of the heaters with a 1650 watt and am now trying to find some 20 amp circuits so that I can use two 2000 watt heaters. This will hopefully allow some 10 gallon batches. I would also look into insulating your pot.

edit: here is a pic. Maybe not as simple as you want, but i really enjoy brewing on this system.

I did not know about that one - I added them to my list. Anyone know of others?

The Electric Brewery

This was originally a list of low cost but since you mentioned the electric brewery I added them. Anyone know of others? Maybe this belongs in its own thread?

High Gravity has some higher end ones also. But the OP was asking about e-BIAB, so those and Kal's would have more functionality than required.
