I've been brewing for like 20 years, but have never seen an answer on this:

How do you put together a valve on to a standard boil kettle so that it does not leak?
 
food grade o ring inside and out
ball valve , a regular spigot has rubber washers that will degrade at boiling temp
 
You know. I solved it.

I was so lazy about the tiny leak -- always depending on burnt sugar to close it up -- finally set my mind on it.

Takes some humility to realise I hadn't addressed this long ago.

There's got to get be young brewers with the same question.
