I've been re-using 1.3liter beer bottles. They have metal twist off lids. I think alckies buy them for maximum booze at min price. I boil lids and sanitize and heat treat bottles at 400f and sanitize. The plastic seal seems ok after boiling. I like because they're big, cheap and no-crowning involved. 1 in 10 is a bit flat. Is there any reason not to use them? I've not had infections. My fear is they're not strong enough for bottle carbing.

I think you've answered your own question with the answer that most give on here... they are inconsistent and sometimes CO2 escapes...

"Is there any reason not to use them?"

1 in 10 is a bit flat.
