I made a simple 2.5 liter starter of Wyeast 3944 Belgian Wit yesterday for a Witbier I'll be brewing next weekend. I put the starter in a one gallon jug and it is foaming over like crazy for a starter with that much headspace. My concern is that since this is a top cropping strain, will all the foaming over "push" out enough of the top cropping yeast to change it's fermentation characteristics, its expected attenuation, or the expected cell count of the starter?

This morning I found a fist sized, clay-like chunk of yeast that had been pushed out of the airlock. The starter is still fermenting. I hope I haven't just accidentally "removed" the top cropping part of this strain. Should I buy another pack of yeast to pitch directly into my wort just to make sure?
