the book I have for homebrewing says that this is a huge no no and its the greatest source and cause of contamination. I hope that this is not the case It would really suck if you lost this batch. If you do lose it get him to pay for the next one and if you still want/need him to help maybe infest in a face mask just incase lol.

And there was already some number of bacteria and/or wild yeast in the wort, no matter how careful you were.
It's always a race between the "good" yeast and the other critters. Just have to hope your yeast will win. They probably will.

+1I am slightly embarassed to say this but when I started brewing I used my mouth to siphon from the boil kettle to the carboy. Then again when I siphoned from carboy to bottling bucket. Did this for the first couple of batches. No infections.
