I have a digital thermometer meant for checking meat on a grill. It is saying my water is 155 degree. My floating thermometer says it is 159. I'm more inclined to believe the floating one. Anyone have any thoughts?

Test them both in boiling water. 212F is where they should be. If not, you know who's right and who's wrong.

A man with a thermometer knows what temp it is. A man with two thermometers is never sure

So pick one and stick with it.

Remember that the boiling point of water drops 1.2F for every 1000ft. of elevation, so in Kennesaw, GA your thermometer should read 210.8 at boiling. You can also check your thermometer in ice water.
