Really disappointed with Colombia yesterday, they blew it. None of the heart and pizzazz of their previous matches. And Brazil wins at the cost of silva and neymar? That is what I call a Pyrrhic victory

Would loooooove to see Costa Rica upset the Netherlands today.....

I'm rooting for them. I've been cheering for every CONCACAF country. They're our last hope :rockin:

Are we really going to do this again?

If you don't like the game no one is making you watch it and no one is making you post in this thread. If all you're going to do is regurgitate all the tired anti-soccer talking points then kindly do us all a favor and GTFO!

the title of this thread is? If you can't handle the truth, maybe you should leave?

I can't tell if you're trolling or just really dense.

Let me give you a little clue about the title:

Did you happen to catch the date this thread was created?

And before you declare something is the "truth" you should really figure out if it's your opinion more than "truth".

Like it or not, Soccer is the world's favorite sport with Rugby right behind. Played both for many years and American style football as well. Enjoyed Rugby the most and American Football the least of the three. In Rugby and Soccer just about anybody can score (including GKers) in American football not so much. American football came from Rugby and was designed to eliminate individual creativity and rely on a guy in a suit and tie to tell you what to do while the game went on. Outside of Peyton, who calls their own plays? Aaron has to audible and change what he is told to do even, so don't go there, the original play is called by the guy in the suit.

Most of the people who don't like soccer or rugby can't understand why they aren't coached during games except at halftime. These are people who need someone in their lives to tell them what to do. They accept authority as the best decision makers rather than their own thoughts. Football needs to reset after play so the guy in the suit can tell the workers what to do. Neither Soccer or Rugby need that. Coaches teach at practice and players play the game. Football players are taught that someone else has to think for them.

So here you go, another "truth" about sports in America.

Neither soccer nor rugby "need" America to be successful, and that may rub a person like yourself the wrong way. Like many others I always find it funny the NFL declares themselves world champion in a sport nobody else plays. I don't even think the Aussie declare themselves world champion in Aussie rules, or the Irish with their Hurley.

So of course you're correct with your comments in a manner of speaking, for your world something 209 of the 216 countries on the planet compete in trying to qualify for 3 years because only 32, make it is just unimportant, cause it's murica dammit.

Don't sweat that packerfan wanna be biker guy/chick. He can't even hold his own in the truly obnoxious football trash talk thread.

I see you avoided the flopping and crying in soccer

I'm fine here. Maybe if you can't understand sarcasm, you should stop using the internet.

Good to see I wasn't wrong about Packer fans though. It takes a special kind of stupid and you my friend have got in spades!

It's an unfortunate evolution in the game. It was invented by the Italians and perfected in South America.

However, Italy were clean this tournament.

But one thing you'll never see is an American writhe on the ground and feign injury. Just look at Dempsey, playing almost the entire tournament with a broken nose.

That all being said, I'll take flopping over Budweiser and Viagra ads every 2 minutes.

And seriously on contrast to the latest nfl rules i.e. Don't touch the kicker...don't touch the QB... NFL seems to be evolving in the same direction

COME ON TICOS! Hold on for 15 more minutes.

Those guys look completely gassed.

Unlucky for Costa Rica, but the dutchies probably deserved to go through. They were desperately unlucky on a number of occasions.

Agreed, the Dutch certainly created a lot more chances, a few of which were inches from settling the game earlier.

Side note, I hate penalties as a way to decide a game, but they sure are exciting to watch.

I got into a debate with someone either last round of WC or in Euros and they suck, but the thing is after 120 minutes of at least 8 outfield players running for the majority of that time they have nothing in the tank. If you don't want your game to be a coin toss win it in 120.

Oh indeed. I totally understand why it's necessary to have something in place, and I'm not sure I have a better plan. But I hate the idea that a game gets settled on something that's such a small part of soccer.

I like how they drop a skater in hockey for overtime, but with how big a soccer field is, and the exhaustion you mentioned, not sure if that would make a big difference. Maybe wheel out some mini goals and play 4 v 4 half field for extra time. ;)

I think it would have been good for the soccer world for CR to pull the upset there, but they were just done in.....

The bummer part is they played so defensively... when we saw at the end, they have the talent to get forward and beat defenders one on one...

Trust your five player back line.... (and man.. they are so disciplined... their offside play is just fantastic) and get forward, at least a bit more...

That said.... great tournament for them.... and good for CONCACAF.

How about those CONCACAF keepers? Tremendous.

The semis are 4 of the biggest futbol powers in the world... but Brazil... going to be hard without their captain AND Neymar..... bummed about that.

I was really hoping for a Brazil v Argentina final....which could still happen, but its going to be tough for this Brazil team, minus those two players against Germany.

This. I always thought collectively that Africa had the best keepers but damn between qualifiers and the tournament, CONCACAF keepers has been absolutely stellar. World-class performances almost every match.

"I see you avoided the flopping and crying in soccer"

packerfan?

Did you forget about pass interference? Every time a receiver doesn't make the catch in traffic, what happens?

geese you make this assumption that nobody knows sports. It appears you don't even understand your prized football.

someone mentioned you were getting it handed to you on the football forum. Did you think coming over to the soccer forum would be any different?

That's what happens when you let the guy in the suit make all the decisions for you.

Ticos, hold your heads high. You guys played your hearts out, and did the unthinkable. Robben needs to be held accountable for his flopping. Even if my Argentines have to play a man down, I want someone to go cleats up into both his achilles next time he pulls this **** and doesn't get carded.

The losses to Brazil are going to hurt, but they're deep, and the ref's have had their back all the way. Argentina - Brazil will make for an epic finish.

Costa Rica conceded 2 goals the entire tournament. Say what you want about their style of play but obviously they put together a top knotch defense. If you are going to rely on defense make it a world class defense I guess

I think it's a toss up, both semis can go either way. I think we may see a couple more shootouts before this is over.

They were also missing one of their defensive starters.... Brian Oviedo.. who plays for Everton.... he tore his ACL during the Premier LEague Season and wasn't able to make it back in time....

They played amazingly.

Don't I get any merit points for not acting like a clunge when we get a real troll? ;)

Had to look that one up. I didn't know Urban Dictionary did British slang too. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go post messages on all the Pilsner recipe threads that they should only be drinking Imperial Stouts.

So anyone wanna pretend that going into this WC they had yedlin on their short list of guys who might earn their way to a CL team?

Not championship level, but I thought that Besler and Gonzalez would garner some interest internationally, Besler would shine in the tourney (and he did) and Gonzalez would play well and teams would love his height potential. Of course I thought they woudl be starting together. Not Cameron/Besler. Also thought it could have been a big cup for Bedoya and Zusi. Not that they would be starting for a big club, but I could see a move toa German team or a newly promoted premier league.
