Stepping Up a Yeast Starter

This is my first time stepping up a starter. I started with a 2L starter and stepping up with a 3L starter next. My question is after I decant the 2L starter can I just pour the boiled and cooled 3L starter right on top of the yeast cake from the decanted 2L starter or do I need to use a new container?

Keep it in the same container. Make sure your funnel and tip and outside of the container are sanitized prior to transfer.
