I've been trying to figure out a simple and elegant solution for attaching an outlet into my heating elements. I didn't want a big electrical box hanging off the side, and wasn't fond of some of the solutions I've seen. They either seemed too bulky or too hackish.
Them I figured this out. Its a 1" electrical conduit coupler, and with a little sanding the inside of a cheap replacement 3 prong outlet fit snugly inside. I wired it up to the element, filled the inside with epoxy, and pressed the outlet in. Simple, elegant, and cheap.
The ground was soldered to the metal housing of the element, and when screwed into the keg, there's less than an Ohm resistance between the keg and ground prong.
