Working on wiring!

image-2789357822.jpg

Getting so close I can almost taste it.....or maybe that is the Stone Black IPA from last night.

Either way, won't be too much longer.

The SWIMBO is ready to start brewing some yummy stuff.
She is almost as excited as I am. ALMOST.
Neither one of us thought it would be as big of a project as it has turned out to be.

Well, it looks great. You should be very proud.

Hopefully it makes good beer!

here is an idea I've yet to see on HBT...

your control panel looks to be scratched up with a grinding wheel of sorts.

how about this.... using the same method of polishing a keggle do that to the control panel. I think a polished control panel would look titties.

That is exactly what we did. It is hard to see in most pictures, but it is pretty smooth and polished.
It just depends on the direction of light and from where you look from.
Here is a better angle.

First batch turned out great.
Really suprised at how well the rig operated.
Didn't run into any problems.

Well, been a while since I posted any progress.
Got the fernentation cabinet done.
Started by insulating the inside of the cabinet.

image-2752730085.jpg

Then added the fermenter.

image-3529141325.jpg

Easy part done.
Next........temperature control...........

Bought a 5500 BTU unit on sale.

First thing I do to it is tear it apart, and extend the wiring from the control panel and thermistor.

image-2987020917.jpg

Still not the most difficult part.
Next......ventilation..........

Designed the duct work that attached to the unit.

Then worked on the duct that would feed each chamber.

Then insulated and covered the duct.

Then all that was left was control panel.......

Beautiful build!! Just awesome!! I just finished building a very similar styled vertical "dual" fermentation chamber and I'm preparing to install an AC unit. Your build raised a couple of questions:
1. Why pipe in the cold air with ducts as opposed to inserting the whole AC unit? Are the chambers independently controlled? If so, how? Baffle? Fans?
2. Did you bypass the AC thermostat? I am plan on controlling temp by setting my AC to max cold and then using a BCS-460 (SSR) to switch a 110V outlet on/off. Am I missing something? Is compressor reset an issue?
3. Is that a "return" register in one of your pics required? Is it necessary? Seems huge.
4. What is R-value of your insulation? I've installed 5.9R (mylar faced), but I'm worried I might need more. On the other hand my basement rarely gets much above 65°, so I'm thinking that the AC will only rarely be needed during peak fermentation.
5. Any plans for heat?

Truly inspired!!
PLOVE

Gorgeous job. Can only hope my turns out as nice as yours.

1) As you can see, I just didn't have the room to include the unit in the cabinet. I built the cabinets for storage before I decided to use it as a fermenter.

As for control of each chamber, I used tubes with threads on them so I can cap of some of them in random chambers to adjust how much flow each gets. Took some time to adjust to get all 3 areas within 1 degree of each other.

2). I actually used the digital controls from the unit. I just extended the wiring for the control panel and Thermistor. This allows the unit to operate as expected(No hard starts/stops).

3). I needed the return to recirculate the air and to pull the moisture out.

4). I used just 1/2 inch insulating panels with a low rating of around 3. It seems to work good. I also had space issues, so I couldn't go too thick. The compressor only kicks in every 30 minutes or so and only runs about a minute.

5). As far as heat, the lower aquarium control will be for heat. I will either use a lamp in each chamber, or a heat pad.

New updates......

Jukebox build.

Wanted some way to load music playlist for the Brewery/Garage.
Found some free jukebox software.......

image-3086853029.jpg

Then purchased a USB keypad........

image-594630725.jpg

Built a frame for a computer monitor........

image-3340148386.jpg

Installed the monitor mount in the wall.......

image-1324998405.jpg

Ran USB and VGA cable to laptop in closet and PRESTO! Jukebox.

Check out "MediaMonkey" for a nice , free library manager..........It is funded somewhat by Amazon.com, and it works well, with regular updates that they notify you about.

I use it for my 700gb, library.

Love this build!

Do you think you could every once and a while post a panoramic picture or one at a distance so we can see the whole thing?

I know I keep having to look back to remember all that you have done. Plus, I bet the entire thing as a whole is worth showing as it evolves.

Thanks for sharing.

Software is VRockola Jukebox.
Works well for free(up to 999 songs).
$99 for the unlimited one.
I would not want to load the thing up with much more. It would take forever to scroll though all the pages.
