Root Beer with Sassafras Better?

I'm not planning to try to make root beer, but as a person whose grandparents used to dig sassafras in the woods, I want to know: is sassafras root beer better than the stuff they've been making since the cancer kerfuffle?

I know taste is subjective, but if there's a difference, there must be a consensus.
