regulator leak?

I bought a used Regulator and while I was waiting to get some new hoses and cleaning Kegs, I hooked it up to my CO2 tank and opened the CO2 tank. The high pressure gauge shot up to about 800 as expected. I turned off the CO2 and it stayed around 800. I left it until the morning and it had dropped to nothing. Do you think I have a leak in my regulator or is this normal operation? I have nothing else connected to it.

I suspect there is a leak. Do you have a gasket between the regulator and the tank valve?
