I purchased a recertified co2 cylinder. When it arrived I checked to see if the new valve was open or closed. The valve was hand tight in the cylinder. I realize that it was pretty just overlooked by whomever put it together. My question is first should I wrap the valve threads with Teflon tape? How tight should the valve be secured? 8” crescent, 10 inch crescent or 12” crescent?

Jeeze, that kinda sucks doesn't it?

Between the brewery and welder I have a half dozen gas cylinders and all of them have taped valve stems, so I'd definitely recommend at least that part. Torque wise, I'd go with the 12" and try to break something with it. I suspect whatever you use to grip the cylinder will slip before the valve stem strips 😁

Cheers!
