Still fairly new to homebrewing and I have only worked with recipe kits bought at my LHBS. I wanted to try to build a recipe, so let me know what you guys think i need to add and/or remove from this build.

5 gallon extract batch Porter:

6 lbs. Light DME
12 oz. Crystal 40L
8 oz. Black Malt
8 oz. Chocolate Malt
8 oz. Roasted Barley

1 oz. Fuggles hops for 60 mins.
1 oz. East Kent golding hops for last 5 mins.

White Labs English Ale yeast.

Any advice would help.

I'd reduce the roasted barley to an ounce if you are going to use it at all in a porter.

Also, you'll have more luck posting in the recipe/ingredient forum https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/. This forum is more for tried and true recipes. Good luck.

There are some beers called poeters that have as much flavor as you have listed there. The other day I had a Founders Porter. It tasted like a stout with a porter body. It was... Interesting. If you want a more traditional porter I would back off the black malt as well.
