Can I get some opinions on whether using a cooler for a mash tune will effect the taste of the final product. I just can't think that pouring hot water into a plastic cooler will not leave a plastic taste. thank you

Coolers are food grade plastic. They are deigned to have anything from soft drinks, to juices to water in them and not lend flavor. Brewers have been using them sucessfully for some time now, winning contests with them even. Consider them a tried and true product for the purpose of brewing using methods as outlined in these and other reputable brewing forums.

HDPE plastic can withstand 230F continuously (according to the wikipedia)

HDPE

I think that's what the inside is supposedly made of.
