I have 5 lbs of Plain Wheat DME that I really don't have use for in any of my recipes. I was wondering if it is ok to use this type of DME in my starters? It consists of 55% wheat and 45% barley. The dme would be used for most any beer that I make....scottish ales, ipa, spiced beer, a little bit of everything.

It seems to me that it would be ok, but I thought that I better ask to see what the consensus is.

It'll work just fine, actually the wheat will have more of the proteins that your yeast can use anyway.

I have canned wort saved from all types of brews including a hefe of two. Works just the same, I save the wheat based wort for steps for wheat based beers so that the yeast are acclimatized but really it does not matter it is just me being paranoid!
