I use a simple stainless always on postal scale ....I buy them for my kegerators. Basically put an empty keg on the scale. HIT "Tare" then put the full keg on it. It is rated to 88 pounds ..has the footprint of a cornelius keg and can be direct powered. $39 USD ....I have 3 of them that have been running for quite some time without issue and the display is always on and right next to the tap. Make sure you disable the auto off function. IMHO you can't beat having a display right there .
If you have friends that love your beer on tap, save the money to invest in a 1/4" NPT solenoid and a remote latching relay to turn off and on the liquid line.
What's the procedure for disabling auto shut-off?
Answer:
Press and hold the TARE button and meanwhile press the ON/OFF button 4 times. Then screen displaying OFF and go back to the weighing mode.
I find it also helpful to have a gauge that I can monitor storage pressure (12 psi) and initial serving pressure (4-6 psi) till the tower lines get cold. I use a ON/OFF/MOMENTARY ON Double pole switch. One side turns on 12 psi supply, the middle turns if off and the other side dumps keg pressure for initial serving. The dump feature is momentary. That switch is installed on the side of the gauge housing. I can send a pic if someone is interested. I am not home now.
I make kegerators out of Chest freezers. Amazon sells a Midea MRC050S0AWW Chest Freezer, 5.0 Cubic Feet, White for $300 delivered and a ranco controller for $89. The tower and drip tray of your choice. I have a printer make latex print wraps custom to my purpose. It can hold 3 kegs and as it is designed to be a freezer it is hardly working at 38F and lasts forever.
