Expense vs acceptable accuracy. I'm trying to save money, but I don't want to purchase useless test equipment, so I'll bite the bullet if need be.

I want to start all grain, and believe pH is and important test for the Acid Rest. I've been looking at Grainger and found some solutions:

PH Strips Narrow Range 4-6 PH 3/8 In Wx16 Ft L $16.50
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/3VEG7?Pid=search

PH Strips Integral 5.2-6.8 PH, Package Quantity 200 $33.50
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/search.shtml?searchQuery=whatman+2628-990&op=search&sst=All&Ntt=litmus|whatman+2628-990&N=

Do you have any thought on either? Will they be accurate enough for the Acid Rest test?

Or should I keep researching digital pH meters?

Alternative suggestions?

I've never had much luck with the PH strips. There generally hard to read and may be affected by temperature.

Having a good digital PH meter that is both waterproof and has temperature calibration is a must have in my opinion.

How about acid/base titration? I've done this many times for lab work, is it too slow for homebrewing? (I know I'm old school)

I think titration would work better than litmus.

For some things, (as I'm typing this from a computer) I haven't learned to trust digital. (I'm kind of a nerd):)

This forum is a great help, thanks again!
