My yeast may not be effective (I didn't store it properly), and I would like to check and see how it is doing. I pitched it on Sunday night, so I believe it should be doing its thing now. My fermenting bucket is the plastic kind so I can only check by opening the lid. Is that okay? Doing research on the web I saw that there is open fermentation, which leads me to believe its fine but just in case there is anything to consider such as air pressure from the process, I want to double-check. I would hate to do anything that ruined my beer. Thank you! --Only Third Time to Brew Girl

Considering we tell folks all the time that you should take gravity readings, how do you think we get them? Having sanitizer in a spray bottle is a good thing to do when opening fermenters, just spray everything down.
