So I'm pretty much brand new to brewing, have my first batch (Northern Brewer ESB) ready to bottle this week. I just picked up Brewers Best Oatmeal Stout kit and plan to brew it this weekend. I'd like to add something to give it a Christmas Ale bend but am not sure what/how much to add or when.

My initial thoughts are to use cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and a bit of orange peel. Would this be an ok spice mix? If so any clues on amounts? Should I add at the end of the boil, add to a secondary fermentation, or some other time?

Add at the end of the boil. Go no more than 1-2 Tablespoons. Pumpkin pie spice and a teaspoon or so of cloves. Taste when you rack to secondary, if it needs more spice you can pull off a couple cups of wort and heat it on the stove and add more spices, cool and return to the fermenter.
