o-ring on plastic bucket fermenter

The little o-ring on my plastic bucket fermentor (where the airlock goes) is almost cut in two from use, age, being stored for years in my dad's attic. So, where can I get a new one? Also, what are they officially called?

it's called a grommet. you can find one at your local hardware store.

If not, just get a stopper and drill out a bigger hole.

funny you should ask this question, I just got back from lowes trying to figure out the size. I have the midwest homebrew kit and their holes take a 5/8OD X 3/8 ID grommet and lowes does have them in two packs which is good cause I see myself breaking them again.

Or pushing one through the hole into your wort. I think there's... one or two posts about that on here.

This is the best suggestion IMO. A 1.25 inch hole is perfect for a common #7 stopper and you won't drop it in accidentally, and it won't split in two.

Well, often times a band-aid is cheaper than getting stitches. That doesn't always mean that it's the best solution to a problem.

Have you tried Brew and Grow on Cortland? It's near Elston and Ashland. They seem pretty well stocked.
