Multipurpose HERMs coild/Immersion chiller?

Would using a coil (stainless or copper) mounted to a lid be able to work as both an HERMs coil and then moved to brew kettle as immersion chiller? If so, pros/cons?

Thinking something simlar to this: Lid (with 3" Tri Clamp Port and Cooling Coil) | Stout Tanks & Kettles Brew Equipment

Sounds good in theory, but: How much of the coil will actually be immersed in the HLT or BK? Do you have an electric element possibly in the way?

I mounted my HERMS coil horizontally in a pot and placed the heating element in the lid that sit in the middle of the coil when the lid is installed. I use it to maintain mash temp and then replace the hot water with cold to cool the post boil wort. I have to remove the water three or four times during the cooling cycle. The last cycle I use ice.
