I have a dumb question. After my mishap with the rubber grommet falling into the wort after I pitched while pushing the airlock in.:(

On my next batch, can I drill a larger hole in the lid to accomadate a corboy bung and place the airlock in that?

Just curious.

Cheers.

John

Primary: #1 Amber ale

they make a small bung. thay will fit the hole in your lid. or just put the airlock in the lid before you put the lid on the bucket.

If you have a LHBS, take the lid over & get it punched. Drilling a smooth hole is tough, although people have reported good luck with a step drill.

I drilled a lid to accept a #2 stopper (same as for bottles) and it works fine. Since you already have a lid that's punched for the grommet I would just leave it. There's nothing wrong with the grommet, just make sure it's seated before you try to push in the airlock.

BTW, I also pushed the grommet into the wort on my first brew.
