Yellow Otter SMaSH - Pale Ale
Batch Size (Gallons): 5.25
Boiling Time (Minutes): 60
Primary: 10 days
Secondary: 1.5 oz dry hop for 7 days
Ingredients
11 lb Pale Malt (Maris Otter)(3.0 SRM)
½ Whirfloc tablet
4 oz Amarillo (alpha 9.3%)
Hop Bill
1 oz Amarillo (60 min)
0.5 oz Amarillo (30 min)
½ Whirfloc tablet (15 min)
1 oz Amarillo (FO)
Strike Water @ 166 w/ 4 gal
Mash @ 152 for 60 min
Sparge @ 168 until 6.75 gal
6.75 gal boil
SF-05 dry yeast
1.5 oz Amarillo - Dry Hop for 7 days
Estimated Original Gravity: 1.060
Estimated Final Gravity: 1.011
Estimated IBUs: 40
Estimated SRM: 4.8
Thoughts on this SMaSH recipe? It seems like these type of recipes are simple to make but can also be screwed up easily too. I put it into BeerSmith and the Style Guide comparison (for American Pale Ale) looks good and my BU:GU is just under 0.7 so a little on the bitter side but not too much. I'm a little worried the color will be too light but if it tastes great I don't really care what it looks like.
