I wouldn't use Doug Fir as it can be sappy.

I'd stay away from anything that is a soft wood. Sap and other "tree snot" could be nasty.

Who cares about the spelling and grammer. Everyone knew what i was sayin! Hahaha thanks everyone. I went with oak and im millin up a nice boat oar style paddle. I dont need to treat it with anything? How to i wash it

oak is gonna get junk in it.. early wood is a very open grain ( see the holes?)
that was too much washing for me when i was looking around my scrap bin.
do you have any maple? (cherry is tight too).
look for something that cutting boards are made out of.

oak will be fine, it's only the mash tun. and yeah, don't treat it.
