theres a very slow leak of beer coming through between the post and the poppet. is this something i can just jimmy into place or should i buy a new posts?

Have you tried to press in the poppet briefly to re seat the poppet? That usually works for me. Try a couple of times...But this is assuming that your o-rings are new too..If not, they could probably stand to be replaced.

Take the post off the keg and pop out the poppet.
Make sure there isn't any crap in there.
I've found pieces of grain, bits of hops, even part of an ant wedged in there.

If everything's real clean and it still leaks, you might need a new poppet. Unless there's visible damage to the post that has the hole deformed, it should be fine.
