iv started a recipe of jedda gin started at 40 on the hydrometer and is at is half way point and reads 990 how do i work out abv?? is this brewing right

ABV=OG-FG*1.33(ish) I plugged in a bunch of OG and FG values to Mr Malty and did an output table. There was a little bariance but suprisingly little.

You're leaving out the decimal points, so make sure you use them when you do the math!

(1.040- .990) x 131 = ABV% of 6.55%

If your OG was 1.140, it would be (1.140- .990) x 131 for 19% ABV.
