This recipe started as a clone of Ellie's Brown Ale From Avery Brewing...My wife loves that beer and I've tweaked this to suit her taste. I make this quite a bit more bitter and use Fuggle and Sterling because I dig the way fuggle woodiness and Sterling spicyness complement the maltiness in this recipe. To me it's almost smoky. I'm kind of a hop head and a lot of Brown Ales are too sweet for me to really enjoy, with the clean american yeast and relatively higher IBU's to offset the maltiness I really enjoy this beer as well.
If you like Ellies, this is a hoppier and drier but you'll probably dig it too. When I've got this on Tap it doesn't usually last long.
