I normally get a large amount of yeast in the blowoff container, seems like a waste. Any ideas out there to seal the catch jar, maybe add a bubbler to it?

I read the other day about someone making a starter out of the yeast from the blowoff. The blowoff container was in starsan. Apparently the healthy yeast can survive in starsan.

After some thinking , here's what I came up with. I can use a mason jar with a lid. Said lid would have 2 holes drilled and grommeted. Hole# 1 would be the inlet for the blowoff( 1 1/4 I.d.?) And Hole # 2 would be sized for a normal airlock. Fill jar with preboiled h2o, after sanitizing of course. Should I work I think.

What he said.

I have made such a lid for a mason jar, but never used it. I usually use FermCap, so rarely have any issues with blow-off. You can buy the seals/gaskets from hardware stores; take your hose and airlock with you to make sure you get the right size seal.
