A friend and I are planning on brewing tonight and I needed to make a yeast starter for this batch. I haven't had time to do it until now, so my question is, would it be ok to go ahead and make the starter now, brew in about 5-6 hours, and then just wait to pitch the yeast until about this time tomorrow?

Yes, There are brewerd that prefer a no chill method letting the wort chill to room temp over night and then pitching.

I'd say that as long as you keep the cooled wort covered and at your proper pitching temp it will be fine. You could also make the starter now and 6 hours later you could go ahead and pitch it. The yeast will be "woken up" and be in full activity. You won't have the full yeast count but if you are concerned about leaving it over night it will be better than no starter at all.
