I'm attempting to build a recipe to have ready by March so I can pass it out to my groomsmen. I am going for a smooth chewy oatmeal stout which I will add a cinnamon stick to secondary (oatmeal cookie ish). Below is my current recipe. Any advice/criticism is welcome, but I have two main questions.
1) This recipe originally came from a RIS. Are the chocolate/roasted barley and IBU a little too much for my intentions?
2) Should I incorporate some crystal (40,60?) in addition to the Special B?
Recipe Specifications
--------------------------
Batch Size: 5.25 gal
Boil Size: 4 gal
Estimated OG: 1.098 SG
Estimated Color: 49 SRM
Estimated IBU: 74.1 IBU
Ingredients:
------------
11.00 lb extra light DME (late add)
2.00 lb two-row
1.50 lb flaked wheat
1.50 lb Roasted Barley
1.00 lb Special B Malt
0.75 lb Chocolate Malt
0.50 lb Cara-Pils/Dextrine
1.00 oz Columbus 60
1.00 oz Willamette 60
S-04 yeast x2
Thanks,
Chad
