If I put 5 gallons in a 5.4 gallon pin cask, is that.4 gallon head space a proplem?

I'm wanting to get started with homemade real ale. All the pins are 5 imperial gallon, which is 5.4 U.S. gallons. Do I need to worry about topping it up the whole way? Or is it ok to let that space empty?

Generally speaking make sure that space is fileld with CO2 and you won't have any problems at all.

As for that, you could do some purge / release cycles or look up "closed transfers".
