IC question

The IC I bought finally arrived today so naturally I put it in my brew pot to see how it fit. My pot has an inside diameter of 14" and the IC is 9 1/2" OD. Should I make the coil a little bigger to take up some of this room? It's a 25' coil, so I know I will need to stretch it a little to get more of the wort in contact with the copper. Another question is should I notch the top so I can put it on while the cooler is doing is thing?

I don't see a need to increase the diameter. The copper would still have the same surface area regardless of the diameter. I would just insure its stretched out enough so that the coils don't touch each other vertically.
