Hi Meredith - welcome to HBT and homebrewing. I see you're from Houston - I used to live there many long years ago - brewed my first beer there, too - back in the dark ages when it was still illegal.
Don't be afraid to ask questions here - you can usually get an answer pretty quick. Sometimes you get different opinions, but that seems to be the nature of homebrewing - everyone has their own way of doing things, and most of them work just fine.

yeah I already like this crowd, like I said I'm totally new to brewing which I guess is a natural direction from loving crafted brews but I don't feel like I'll be called out as a n00b or anything so that's nice
