I’m growing hops in my back yard for shade. They grow up about 10’, then turn 90 degrees and grow parallel to the ground. I’d like them to get as long as possible. How many bines is recommended per plant if this is the goal? They’re 5 year old plants (2nd year in ground, first 3 were in buckets). Centennial plants.

The first few bines are called "bull shoots" and should be cut down completely. They kinda look like asparagus (and taste like asparagus . . .). After the bull shoots, let the strongest bines go.
